Men publikum skal underholdes - også selvom det kan koste artisterne livet ... Karen Aabye (1904-1982) var en dansk forfatter og journalist. Karen Aaby debuterede i 1939 med romanen "Der er langt til Paris". Sidenhen udgav hun en lang række bøger, hvoraf Martine-serien (1950-54) er en af de mest kendteverdenskrig, og Gestapo endte med at sprænge hendes hus 'Kissum bakke' i luften. Heldigvis var ingen hjemme og huset blev genopbygget efter krigen. I 1946 skildrede Karen Aabye flere danske skæbner, der flygtede til Sverige i løbet af krigen.
