Per questo è una metafora che racconta maledettamente bene il modo con cui abbiamo lanciato negli ultimi cent’anni i nostri percorsi di ricerca, desideri, ambizioni attraverso la tecnologia, in nome di un futuro che assomiglia sempre di più a un’utopia. Questi boomerang hanno viaggiato. Alcuni per distanze e fratture temporali brevissime. Altri stanno compiendo la loro parabola. Altri ancora ricadono – oggi, chissà come e quanto domani – sulla nostra vita, con la fine dell’utopia incisa sul legno del loro dorso. Hanno effetti devastanti per il pianeta. Colpiscono inaspettatamente (mentre dichiariamo di saper prevedere tutto), indistintamente, implacabilmente. Quando li abbiamo lanciati eravamo nel pieno del sogno di crescita, di sviluppo, di possibilità e abbiamo caricato la tecnologia di responsabilità mostruose nel promettere la salvezza per ogni disastro, la cura a ogni malattia, la soluzione a ogni equazione. Tutto era lontano e non ci siamo dati troppa pena delle conseguenze. Ma oggi?
