"Hegel ci appare molto lontano e Nietzsche, al contrario, molto vicino a noi, se in questo consideriamo soltanto l'influsso e di quello soltanto l'opera. In realtà, l'opera di Hegel, per mezzo dei suoi discepoli, ha esercitato sulla vita spirituale e politica una azione tale che difficilmente potrà esser valutata in modo eccessivo, mentre gli innumerevoli influssi derivati da Nietzsche dopo il 1890 soltanto al nostro tempo si sono concretati in un'ideologia nazionale. Agli hegelianeggianti del 1840 corrispondono i nietzchianeggianti di ieri... Soltanto il secolo XX ha cosí reso chiaro e comprensibile ciò che è realmente avvenuto nel secolo XIX".
