Ciò che ne nasce non è una psicologia che, direbbe Jaspers, “comprende” l’uomo per come si dà, ma una psico-fisiologia che lo “spiega”. Se però la psicologia oggettiva lo psichico e, come fa la fisiologia con gli organi corporei, lo tratta come cosa in sé che non si trascende in altro, perde la specificità dell’umano. Umberto Galimberti ci accompagna nella visione fenomenologica, grazie alla quale la psicologia non dovrà più spiegare i rapporti che intercorrono tra psiche e corporeità, ma potrà descrivere le evidenti relazioni che intercorrono tra il corpo e il mondo e le produzioni di significato che queste relazioni esprimono. Per la psicologia fenomenologicamente fondata, infatti, il “sano” e l’“alienato” appartengono allo stesso mondo, anche se l’alienato vi appartiene con una struttura di modelli percettivi e comportamentali differenti; dove la differenza non ha più il significato della “disfunzione” ma semplicemente quello della “funzione” di una peculiare organizzazione esistenziale, ossia di un certo modo di essere-nel-mondo e di progettare, nonostante tutto, il mondo.
