Per mezzo del concorso letterario La pelle non dimentica, le Mezzelane Casa Editrice ha inteso occuparsi attivamente di un problema che si desidererebbe scomparso, e invece pare acquistare sempre maggior rilevanza: il cosiddetto femminicidio, come oggi viene definito con termine specifico e non neutro l'omicidio contro le donne, in tutte le sue manifestazioni, per motivi legati al genere. Questi tipi di uccisione, che colpiscono la donna perché donna, non costituiscono incidenti isolati, frutto di perdite improvvise di controllo o di patologie psichiatriche, ma si configurano come l’ultimo atto di un continuum di violenza di carattere economico, psicologico, fisico o sessuale (Milena Anzani, MA in Istituzioni e politiche dei diritti umani e della pace, Università di Padova / Volontaria di Servizio Civile Nazionale), a cui si aggiungono le violenze domestiche perpetrate, lo stupro. La partecipazione al concorso è stata numerosa. Tra i moltissimi testi arrivati, in poesia e in prosa, il voto popolare e due giurie tecniche hanno scelto quelli che sono andati a comporre due antologie, il ricavato della vendita delle quali, tolte le spese vive di pubblicazione, andrà a favore di Artemisia Centro Antiviolenza, associazione fiorentina che offre il proprio sostegno, psicologico e anche legale, alle donne in difficoltà.
