Sammanlagt utgav Majken Johansson åtta diktsamlingar. Många av hennes dikter, t ex Villanella på en spik, har blivit ständiga antologismycken. Hon är också känd för sitt ovanliga levnadsöde. Hon föddes 1930, växte upp i fosterhem och blev en lika vild som briljant skolelev. Som student i Lund var hon med och bildade den s k Lundaskolan på femtiotalet. 1970 mottog hon De Nios pris. Majken Johansson behandlar sina ofta brännbara ämnen med ironisk distans och språklig virtuositet. Hennes lyrik är fylld av personligt, andligt konfliktstoff.
