Description
Les mangroves sont des formations édaphiques halophiles, typiquement tropicales et exclusivement littorales dont la principale caractéristique est leur composition floristique dominée par les palétuviers. Elles fournissent d’importantes ressources fortement sollicitées par les populations riveraines. Du fait de cette forte sollicitation, les mangroves sont sous plusieurs menaces dont les plus sérieuses sont l’exploitation incontrôlée du bois pour la satisfaction des besoins en énergie domestique, l’érosion des berges des cours d’eau et l’urbanisation qui dégradent la biodiversité et les services écosystémiques qu’elles procurent. L’urgence de la gestion durable des mangroves dans un contexte de surexploitation et des changements climatiques, ajoutée à la nécessité de la mise en place d’un outil national devant guider et orienter les actions ont conduit à l’élaboration de cette stratégie nationale assortie d’un plan d’actions pour la gestion durable des mangroves.
