Esta obra nos ofrece sus inicios, sus primeros encuentros con la literatura, con su oficio eterno: el arte de escribir. Nos damos cuenta, a través de estos poemas, de que su prosa tiene un origen lírico de una tradición, según él, modernista, pero en su esencia encontramos sabiduría, belleza y utopía. Sin estos tres términos, su literatura deja de existir. Y es en este libro donde reunimos los versos fundadores de una tradición a la que dio forma Manuel Rojas. La relevancia de la presente edición está en la reunión de sus dos libros de poesía, Tonada del transeúnte (1927) y Deshecha rosa (1954), más una recopilación de poemas publicados en distintos diarios y revistas de la primera mitad del siglo XX, que ayudarán a comprender mejor su evolución literaria y a disfrutar de su poesía armónica y a la vez transgresora.
