評說蔣介石

蔣介石在民國史上，與孫中山、袁世凱、毛澤東並稱四大政治人物，四人身後評價不一。以蔣而言，長期以來在中國大陸被視為「人民公敵」，而在台灣則被捧為「偉大的民族救星」。1995年，蔣於逝世二十年後，汪榮祖與李敖在台北出版了第一本完整的《蔣介石評傳》，不再重彈捧蔣老調，令許多台灣讀者有耳目一新之感。

然而，近年隨著蔣介石手寫日記的公開，大陸學者發現蔣介石跟他們從前認識的形象很不一樣，形成另一波的捧蔣之風；在美國則由於右派勢力的興起，一反既往貶蔣之論，出了不少捧蔣批毛的著作。捧蔣的根據是蔣的手寫日記，但有意留給後人看的日記，必有個人的主觀，不能不分辨「真實的蔣」（person）與蔣「要我們知道的蔣」（persona）。寫歷史的人，豈能被日記牽著鼻子走？《評說蔣介石》針對蔣介石與重要的史事及人物，以一系列的主題，提出實事求是的評價，既有駁斥、也作翻案。
