Aceste persoane nu existau pentru autorități altfel decât pentru a fi supuse incriminării legale. Cei menționați în acest volum sunt martori, actori, naratori ai unor istorii queer care nu sunt considerate încă a fi parte din istoria României. În fața negării prin lege a propriei existențe, au inventat coduri, ritualuri, limbaje ale supraviețuirii într-o societate ce le era ostilă. Au practicat deopotrivă tăcerea, camuflajul, acomodarea, protestul, vizibilitatea personală și de grup. Ei sunt strămoșii unei comunități ce nu mai poate fi astăzi evacuată din spațiul public. Aceste istorii sunt cu atât mai importante astăzi cu cât revine în dezbaterea publică obsesia protecției împotriva celor care suntem asimilați Occidentului decadent, imoral, agresiv. Democrația e în pericol atunci când demonizarea «Celuilalt» duce la restrângerea ori negarea drepturilor, când populiștii se erijează în apărători ai patriei aflate sub atacurile minorităților și elitei birocratice europene. Aflând fragmente din istoria acestei comunități, vom putea, cred, să ne cunoaștem mai bine unii pe ceilalți pentru a conviețui în aceeași societate.“ —FLORIN BUHUCEANU
