內容簡介在通常所說的「中國近現代史」中，劃分出「百年國難」（1840-1937）與「八年抗戰」（1937-1945）兩個時期，由此提出了「百年國難文學」與「八年抗戰文學」兩個範疇，認為最能體現時代本質與時代特色的文學是「國難文學」，因此需要將「百年國難文學」作為一段相對獨立的文學史加以專題研究。全書採用文本分析與史料實證相結合的「文史互證」法及比較文學的「涉外文學」研究法，將一般文學史所忽略的、由外來入侵所造成的歷次國難事件為題材的文學作品及其它文學性史料，加以發掘、整理、統合，並予以系統化、史書化，對其中所蘊含的國難意識、生存危機、心靈震盪、世界觀念、愛國情懷、民族情感、反省與批判精神等，加以分析闡發，力圖填補中國文學史研究中的一處空白，並對中國近現代史著作中的相關史料與敘述，從文學的角度加以豐富和補充。可為中國文學史、中國近現代史、中外關係史與中外交流史的研究提供參考。
