�3歲前是嬰幼兒大腦潛能開發的關鍵期，這主要是因為大腦正處於突發生長期這一關鍵時刻。從腦的重量來看，嬰兒出生時腦重約350克，1歲時約為950克，到3歲時約為1200_1300克，已接近成人水準。

初生寶寶受外部環境持續刺激的影響，大腦會變得越來越成熟。剛開始，腦細胞具有細胞間質形態的細胞，而且隨著刺激的增加，會逐漸變成包含高品質DNA的細胞間質細胞。一般情況下，成長的細胞間質細胞可以分化成神經細胞和神經膠質細胞，而且DNA數量也不會再增加，因此，必須在0_3周歲期間充分地刺激大腦，這樣才能形成具有高品質DNA的腦細胞。

6歲時，兒童大腦大部分幾乎成熟了，以後人的腦力、性格和心靈將永遠不會再如此迅速地發展，人們將永遠不會再有這樣的機會去奠定智力健康的基礎了。教育的基礎主要是在5歲前奠定的，它占整個教育過程的90%，在這之後，教育還要繼續進行，人進一步成長如同培植的花朵開花、結果，而您精心培植的花朵在5歲以前就已綻蕾。因此必須在寶寶滿3周歲前，通過各種刺激增加大腦的容量。
