臺灣人類學的百年發展，奠基在日本殖民臺灣時期的發展與在中國的發展後移植臺灣的二傳統，此二傳統在1949年匯整沿流，累積了相當的研究成果。為了回顧這段學術發展史，清華大學人類學研究所與臺灣大學人類學系在2011年11月18、19日於臺大文學院合辦了「重讀臺灣：人類學的視野──百年人類學回顧與前瞻」學術研討會。我們以人類學與臺灣社會的發展作為主軸，從二個面向來討論人類學與臺灣社會的發展關係：一方面，回顧這百年來臺灣人類學的發展歷史，尤其是人類學者如何經由學術研究來參與臺灣社會的發展歷程；另一方面，期許臺灣人類學能從回顧前人的研究成果中，思考人類學觀點與研究視野如何回饋當代臺灣社會在發展過程中所出現的問題與現象，以期能永續經營臺灣，並提昇人類學的學術研究視野。 本書包含三個主題：1. 考古學發展與歷史建構：從考古學、生態考古及體質人類學等面向來探討臺灣史的問題。2. 臺灣社會的蛻變：包括對於族群建構、原住民族群史、漢人宗教、社區營造與文化產業等研究領域的回顧探討。3. 博物館與文化資產的人類學視野：以當代相當受到重視的人類學的博物館研究與文化資產問題作為人類學應用面向的展現。
