本書針對基督宗教之宗徒教父作品《克來孟致格林多人前書》、《十二宗徒訓悔錄》、以及安提約基亞的伊納爵七封書信中的蒙選思想(選民)，與早期天師道經書《老子想爾注》、《大道家令戒》、《陽平治》中的蒙選思想(種民)進行比較研究。附錄收入作者另外五篇文章，包括於輔仁大學天主教學術研究院博士後研究期間之其他宗徒教父作品(《巴爾納伯書信》、《何而馬的牧者》、《鮑理嘉致斐理伯人書》、《鮑理嘉殉道致命紀》)蒙選思想分析專文。全書字數超過三十四萬字，為近年來華人學界罕見之針對宗徒教父作品與早期天師道經書蒙選思想的比較宗教研究成果。
