儒、釋、道構成了中華文化的內涵。而「三教之道，聖道而已。儒曰『至誠』，釋曰『真空』，道曰『金丹』。要皆太虛一氣，貫乎天地人物之中者也。」三教的內涵都是道，儒家、佛家、道家的言論，都離不開道的範圍，目的都在探究天、地、人之間的關係。而貫穿天、地、人的介質即是「太虛一氣」，因此，探究中華文化的根本與掌握中華文化的智慧寶藏之鑰，即在瞭解「太虛一氣」為何物。

很可惜，到了現在，「道」成了玄奧難解的形上學，道在人們的心目中也無具體的概念。在此情形下，研讀儒、釋、道的書籍或文獻的時候，對於文中涉及「道」的內容，常常是滿頭霧水無法理解，依據字面的意義妄加臆測，對於祖先的著作不免會有曲解原義的情形。

另外一方面，近一、二百年來，科學進步飛速，尤其二十世紀的前半期出現了量子的概念之後，許多物理學家將量子力學視為瞭解和描述自然的基本理論，因量子力學而獲頒?貝爾物?學獎的波耳（Neils Bohr）和湯川秀樹（Hideki Yukawa），更是推崇道家思想與量子力學的契合。呼應了《老子．第二十五章》所言「人法地，地法天，天法道，道法自然。」的真知灼見。

本書作者，有三十多年的道家實證修煉經驗，同時廣覽古籍與科學群書，期能貫穿古今整理出現代人能看得懂的「道」理。本書名為「修道與養生」，內容包括上篇「修道隨筆」及下篇「養生漫談」兩部分。「修道隨筆」是作者長期閱讀、修煉所體悟的一些心得；「養生漫談」則是針對多類的養生方法提出淺見，以供讀者追求健康之參考。

《莊子．大宗師》說：「有真人而後有真知。」這句話的涵意是：中華傳統文化，必須親身修道、體驗之後才能完全瞭解；期待作者的修煉心得能成為國人進入「道的殿堂」的入手處，同時也藉著本書的整理而在身心靈健全上獲得助益。?
