Bringing fun into learning and teaching has always been my principle in education, and this is why I always refer myself as an Edutainer, who strives to influence the world with edu(cation) and (enter)tainment. Bye Bye Chinglish is the first book I have written to present the knowledge of English to readers in an entertaining and systematic way. Through this book, readers, particularly local Hongkongers, will learn to express in English in various ways when they try to convey the same colloquial meaning in Cantonese. What’s more, to make learning more multi-dimensional, I have created an interesting video online for each chapter to stimulate the learning receptors of each learner. Getting the award as one of the best 10 books (十本好讀) from HKedCity is definitely a great recognition for my firmly-believed philosophy, ensuring myself that I am on the right track. Those who vote for this book give me tremendous motivation to keep telling not only students, but also teachers, that learning and teaching can always be carried out in a fun and creative manner.

政改方案表決後，「蝦碌」一詞又再流行起來，但問起「蝦碌」的英文該怎樣講？相信不少人會支吾以對，掙扎良久才狼狽地吐出一句「Shrimp look囉！」，到時真係唔方唔「蝦碌」！

香港很多日常用語，用起來「到肉」，要轉成英語時，卻總是找不到同樣貼切的表達方法，甚至只能硬著頭皮直譯：抽水變「draw water」、好柒變「so seven」、揹鑊變「carry pan」、食死貓變「eat die cat」……類似的尷尬例子多不勝數。

本書作者Patrick Sir，擁有多年教授英文的經驗，曾開辦教學中心及國際幼稚園，亦曾在TVB兒童節目《放學ICU》中擔任「Patrick Sir英語通通識」環節的主持，更為多份雜誌及報章撰寫英文通識專欄，並編寫英文及通識教材。他深明「寓教學於娛樂」之道，編寫了這本生活化得來又相當實用的英文教學書，特別挑選時下年輕人最流行的各種「潮語」，仔細按不同的說話情況，教授各種可用的英語表達手法，為所有受「直譯」之苦的讀者提供解救之道。
