تحرص الدول على الاهتمام بمهنة التعليم لما لها من أثر بعيد المدى في تأهيل الموارد البشرية المنتجة في مناحي الحياة كافة، ولم يعد دور المعلم في عصرنا مقصورًا على التلقين ونقل المعرفة، بل تعاظم دوره وأصبح هو الميسر للمعرفة والمجدد لها، والمؤصّل للقيم والقادر على التعامل مع الطلاب كافة وتعزيز قدراتهم.
ونتيجة لذلك كان لزاماً على المجتمع التربوي إعادة النظر في منظومة تكوين المعلم داخل كليات التربية من حيث الأهداف والبرامج والطرق؛ لتتواكب مع هذه الأدوار الجديدة له، بحيث يصبح المعلم مهيأً للحاضر والمستقبل، قادرًا على التكيف مع المتغيرات الحالية والمحتملة، وتكون لدية المرونة والكفاءة لتحمل أعباء هذه المهنة الشاقة.
وهذا يتطلب اعتبار مسألة إعداد المعلم وتدريبه عملية مستمرة، واستراتيجية من استراتيجيات التربية المستدامة.
هذا الكتاب يعالج أهم القضايا المتصلة بمهنة التعليم في عصرنا الراهن، من حيث واقعها، وسبل تطويرها على أسس علمية واضحة.
