1장에서는 크나큰 성과를 남긴 여성 작가와 연구자에게 초점을 맞춰 그들이 쌓아 올린 지성의 향연을 보여준다. 2장에서는 말, 몸, 피, 신이라는 네 가지 열쇳말을 통해 여성의 삶에 길잡이가 될 만한 책을 소개한다. ‘페미니즘 리부트’ 이후 한국 출판계에 쏟아진 다양한 여성 관련 저작들은 이 책을 써내려가는 데 크나큰 밑거름이 되었다. 이 시기에 출판을 담당했던 저널리스트로서, 또한 사회학과 여성학 공부를 이어가는 ‘주말의 연구자’로서 필자는 수많은 책들의 더미 속에서 눈여겨볼 저작을 끄집어내고 정성 가득한 해제를 만들어냈다. 각 꼭지마다 참조한 책들을 꼼꼼히 덧붙여두어서 본격적인 지적 세계에 다가가려는 이들에게 유용한 가이드북이 될 수 있도록 했다.
