Mari is a researcher in the East District of the Silhouette, but when her reoccurring dream changes all the sudden from pristine beaches she walked on her own to having a visitor, she's concerned. In her waking hours she is consumed by thoughts of Shadows growing ever more concerned when she receives the most dangerous file to fall into her possession, a file that contains her transfer papers ordering her to Headquarters to be trained as a Shadow. Now she's been teamed up with three other elite Shadows including Nyght, a half human half demon with an obvious soft spot for her. As her training begins her new teammates find Mari's reach goes deep into the Silhouette, farther than anyone they've ever known. She seems to know everybody including other elite Shadows... well she is related to one and there was that whole engagement to another. As their journey continues taking the team down winding paths of pain, forgiveness, growth and maybe even love Mari's strange dreams start hitting a little too close to home. Her dream man has returned to her offering guidance and a reality check when required as she battles with not only demons but her own emotions and where she fits into Nyght's life. Over time she becomes close with this dream man and soon learns the true prophecy her and her teammates are to fulfill but as they try to make sense of it they're also trying to figure out why a high level demon is after Mari personally and just how many lies they've been fed in the past to keep them from learning the truth. Piece by piece they start to put things together but know no matter what they cannot find all the answers they need on their own. Could this demon hold the answers, or could it turn their worlds upside down forever?
