In this book, the author explores the two levels of the self, i.e., the visible self, which is the ego, and the invisible, original self, which is the divine, universal, eternal self (call it God, Atman, Allah, Dao or by any other name given to it by man). The author believes that for most of us the temporary self, the ego, is disconnected from the universal self and that this disconnect creates all the so-called 'problems' in life and these problems create anguish, anxiety, suffering, violence, hatred, fear and other negative aspects in life. The author thinks that it is possible to reconcile the two selves and to allow the universal self to inform and guide the ego to a more calm, peaceful, blissful and pure life that is devoid of all the negativity of 'normal' human life. The way forward is through meditation, silence and stillness which allow the mind to start observing and eventually to transcend the ego, to pierce the veil of the ego and look beyond at our own original self. The moment we take the first look at the original self, the whole structure of the ego starts dropping. The author believes that this is not a new message. It has been conveyed to humanity over many centuries again and again by the great wisdom teachers, mystics, shamans and the so-called prophets, but the human race in general has never been interested enough in it so as to understand the message and has misunderstood and misinterpreted it. The author's sole endeavour is to bring the message back onto the radar and to present it in today's vocabulary, so that we can try to look at ourselves again and at the failed civilisation that we have created and try to re-create a civilisation that will work for everyone. The starting point for this endeavour will be spirituality without understanding which, according to the author, man will remain dissatisfied, unfulfilled and constantly searching for things that will not improve his lot.
