Set in New Mexico, in the early 1990s, it follows the Keane family through the gradual disintegration of the American counterculture, of the 1960s. Byrd Keane, who has been managing a natural foods cooperative, and running a small organic farm in Upper Michigan, returns with his own family to confront the slow disintegration of his extended family, and of the place he loved. The novel is an unflinching look at the post- Reagan decline of American society. It is not for the faint of heart.
