Description
A break, usually in a bone, is a fracture. An open or compound fracture occurs when the broken bone penetrates the skin. Fractures are frequently the result of sports injuries, falls, or car accidents. Low bone density and osteoporosis, which weaken the bones, are two additional causes. Stress fractures, which are very small cracks in the bone, can be caused by overuse.
